Default Moving Sql 2k server to new domain - 05-27-2004 , 03:42 AM

I need to move a Windows 2003 with SQL 2000 server from an NT 4.0 domain to
a Windows 2003 (mixed mode) domain.

Is it as simple as moving the Server OS from one domain to another, or do
you have to do more to the SQL???

I noticed that the sql services are being started as the NT 4.0 domain
administrator, so that needs changing, but how much more????

Cheers

Tim

I have the same issue but I am trying to move the SQL server into a new
domain that is in a seperate forest. The server name is not going to change
but I am not sure if I need to rebuild the master database.

I'm lucky in the fact that the SQL is running SQL Authentication so I'm
pretty sure I can just unattach and reattach to the new domain.

I found this
http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q283811 which tells
you how to change the Service Account (which I will have to do because the
service is currently being started by NT40DOMAIN\ADMINISTRATOR

Yours sounds trickier, hopefully someone will be along in a minute!!

Good Luck

Tim

Success, I just moved the server to the new domain and all worked. I had a
couple of NT accounts for authentication but I just reapplied the
permissions.
