Default Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Installation failed on Windows XP SP2 + MDAC 2.81 SP1 - 11-30-2005 , 12:16 PM

Hi,
i am trying to install MS SQL Server 2000 Developer on my Windows XP
SP2 machine. At the end of the installation the setup programm wants to
start the server and wants to configure it.
(translated it says ~ "...installs the configuration you chose...")
It takes some time and then i'll get the error message that the setup
program could not configure the server.

I also tried to install the latest MSDE (2 RelA).

I deleted sql folders, registry folders, check MDAC with component
checker (was ok), reinstalled mdac also, checked if my registry is
empty for ODBC (it was not empty) but also imported ODBC registry
values from a working Windows XP SP2 with SQL Server 2000 Developer
edition.

Nothing worked - 9 hours for nothing

I'm really pissed off. Please HELP ME!

btw no i dont want to/i can't use sql server 2005 express!
thanks, toebens
