Unless these scientific studies are done with the sole and unique purpose of
testing your software - which I doubt - this must be considered as a
production environment. As such, it would be illegal to use SQL-Server
Developer Edition in this context and it should be removed before shipping.
(Leaving it there but not use it will not be sufficient to meet the
licensing requirement.).
However, if you think that the Express Edition could be sufficient for
conducting these scientific studies, then you should install and use it
instead.
