Default Licensing question - 01-14-2010 , 02:45 AM

Can somebody please tell me, if it's ok to install an SQL Server 2008
Developer license during a trial project of our software?
The Server will be shipped to a university where our software will be part
of scientific studies. We use these studies as a beta test of our software.

Kind regards,
Michael Sander

Unless these scientific studies are done with the sole and unique purpose of
testing your software - which I doubt - this must be considered as a
production environment. As such, it would be illegal to use SQL-Server
Developer Edition in this context and it should be removed before shipping.
(Leaving it there but not use it will not be sufficient to meet the
licensing requirement.).

However, if you think that the Express Edition could be sufficient for
conducting these scientific studies, then you should install and use it
instead.
