Default Installing SQL Server after Express Edition SP2 - 04-21-2007 , 09:36 AM

I already have Express Edition installed on Windows Vista as part of
installing VS2005 and I have upgraded the Express Edition to SP2.

Now, I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition. The install
will not allow me to install management studio because it says there is a
previously installed version that is newer (sp2) than the version I am
installing.

How can I get SQL Server 2005 management studio installed? Can it be done
without uninstalling Express Edition? There is not a separate entry in the
Control Panel->Programs for management studio or for tools.

Thanks,

Dale

the 2 versions of SQL Server Management Studio (the full version of SQL
Server 2005, available via the Deve Edition or any other full licensed
[payable ] version) and SQL Server Management Studio Express (the free one
available for "free" from Microsoft web site or via the installation of SQL
Server 2005 Express with Advanced Servises) can not coexists on the same
pc..
please unistall the SQL Server Management Studio Express tool only via
control panel->Add/remove programs applet or via the SQLExpress with
Advanced Services setup program unchecking it in the install options..

Thanks, Andrea. I was able to resolve it with your suggestion. To uninstall
Management Studio Express, I had to actually change the insalled components
for SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. There was no separate uninstall for it.
But afterwards, the install went well.

This attempt to split the management tools like that is going to haunt us
for many years.

Thanks again,

Dale
