Default Installing SQL Server 2005 Management Studio. - 09-17-2009 , 02:32 AM

Hi,

I am trying to install the above on my desktop PC, so that I can manage our
company's SQL Server 2005 databases, including the migration of data between
databases (some of which are on SQL Server 2000).

I had successfully installed the '2008 Management Studio, which although it
worked, a number of management and data transfer procedures on our SQL 2005
databases would not work, requiring the installation of the '2005 Management
Studio.

I have the company's program DVD entitled 'Microsoft Volume Licensing - SQL
Server 2005 Enterprise Edition 32 bit' which has three zipped files on it,
one being SP2 for the program, one of the other two is named
'SW_CD_SQL_Svr_Enterprise_Edtn_2005_W32_English_1_ 32_bit_MLF_X11-57790.EXE'
and the other is identical apart from the number which is 57791.

I have unzipped these files into their own folders and tried running the
'setup.exe' file, which gives me the following options:

- Client Components
--- Connectivity Components
--- Management Tools
--- Business Intelligence Development
--- Software Development Kit
--- SQLXML Features
--- Legacy Components

- Documentation, Samples...
--- SQL Server Books Online
--- Sample Databases
--- Sample Code and Applications

Although having installed the top section items and the 'SQL Server Books
Online', the Management Studio is not showing anywhere in the program list.

Any help you are able to offer would be most gratefully received!

Thankyou.

I'm not sure that you'll have much luck installing 2005 SSMS *after* 2008
SSMS. The preferred installation order is the opposite, though there may
still be some undesirable side effects of running both.

Did you search your system for "SqlWB.exe"? That is the program name for
2005's version of SSMS. So it may be on your hard drive even if the frilly
shortcut wasn't added to the Start menu (or you just can't find where it was
added).
