I'm trying to do some work with Reporting Services on SQL 2005, using the Business Intelligence Development Studio. I had SQL 2008 installed on my machine for another project, and now I have to work with SQL 2005. BIDS is installed and working for SQL 2008, but I need to use the SQL 2005 version to be compatible with other team members. Whenever I try and install the SQL 2005 version, it tells me that a newer version is already installed, and will not be overwritten. I'm installing this on a XP SP2 workstation. Do I need to uninstall SQL 2008, and then re-install 2005 in order to get the BIDS for SQL 2005? Or can I create compatible objects with the SQL 2008 version? Thank you for any help you can provide. Carl. |

Could it be... Your SQL Server 2008 instance is a Default Instance and you are trying to install your SQL Server 2005 instance as a Default Instance too? If so, install your SQL Server 2005 instance as a Named Instance. -- Ekrem Önsoy - SQL Server MVP "Carl" <a@b.c>, iletisinde şunu yazdı, news:%23ZbZQsLBKHA.1208 (AT) TK2MSFTNGP03 (DOT) phx.gbl... I specifically set the SQL 2005 installation as a named instance to avoid this issue. Any other suggestions? Thanks. Carl. I believe you cannot have both installed at the same time. I use a VM with 2005 installed when I have to work with 2005 reporting.
