Default Installation files in "Program Files (x86)" - 10-19-2009 , 02:09 PM

All,

On a 64-bit machine, the "Program Files (x86)" holds all the 32-bit files and
"Program Files" hold 64-bit files.

Considering that I installed 64-bit SQLServer 2005/2008, why does the
installation create folders and files under "Program Files (x86)"? Shouldn't
all SQLServer 2005/2008 64-bit related files be placed under "Program Files"
folder.

Thanks,
rgn

We've found that some SSIS packages developped on 32bit workstations
don't work when run on a 64bit machines. We were glad to discover
that the 32bit version of DTEXEC was still installed even on 64bit
machines. We were able to path out to x86 folder to run our SSIS
packages.

And, of course, SQL Server Management Studio and related tools are 32-bit as
well.
