I'm trying to install a personal edition sql server on my
workstation for testing.

But after the installation almost finished, it gives
message:
Data source name not found and no default driver specified

The installation failed. I can't find the program on
start menu/ programmes.

Any ideas?

Hi,

Do you have the following registry key?

HKey_Local_machine\Software\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\SQL Server

If this key is not present, you may want to reinstall MDAC first. Or you
can install latest MDAC from http://www.microsoft.com/data

Make sure that the account that you use to login to Windows is part of the
local administrator group.
If this does not work, you may want to call Microsoft Product Support
Service.
