Absolutely!! It took me two hours to track this problem down as well.
What, it would have killed them to have the error report specify that it was looking for IIS 6.0?
Thank YOU for posting it.
The worst part of this for me was after finally fixing the problem and getting a clean configuration report I realized Reporting Services is the only thing that will use IIS and I'm not even installing that feature!!!

Sigh... OK Windows Server 2008R2 DOES have IIS 6.0 compatilbity. If you
install the IIS 6.0 scripting compatibility, then, and only then, can you
install SQL Server 2005 with Reporting Services.
THAT should be in the documentation somewhere.

Install SQL 2005 RS on Server 2008R2
I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 and reporting services on a new Windows
Server 2008R2 (64-bit) server. SQL Server itself installs fine, but it
refuses to install Reporting Services because it cannot see the .NET version.
32-bit applications are disabled in the default app pools (per the RS install
instructions) but it still fails the test. Any idea if it is even possible to
get past this error?
As far as the Vista instructions at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...7(SQL.90).aspx, the
AdsUtil.vbs command fails on Server 2008R2 even after you track down
AdsUtil.vbs in its winxsx folder. Simply does not work.
SQL Server 2005 is reporting 9.0.4053, which is beyond SP3, so according to
the document at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955725/, Reporting Services
should work. But it does not. When I try running the configuration tool, I can
"Invalid name space" as the error.
So, back to the install again to see if I can get it to install. I have two
warnings in the configuration check page:
1. ASP.Net Version Registration Requirement: Failed to find the ASP.Net
Version Registration with Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS).
Note: .NET framework feature is installed. And .NET version is set to
2.0.50727 in both app pools. And in advanced settings, enable 32-bit
applications is set to false for both app pools. I understand those as
requirements for SQL 2005 Reporting Services.
2. Edition Change Check: To change an existing instance of Microsoft SQL
Server 2005 to a different edition of SQL Server 2005, you must run SQL
Server 2005 Setup from the command prompt and include the SKUUPGRADE=1
parameter. I am not sure I understand this error. I started with SQL Server
2005 64-bit Enterprise Edition and have not tried to install any other
version on this server ever.
So I continue, fill in the user and company. Then I get to the components to
install. OOPS. Reporting services is greyed out . I cannot select it. I read
somewhere that this is OK... and once the service pack is installed, you can
configure reporting services. But so far, and I have tried several times, this
has not proved the case for me.
So yes, I am still stuck. Apparently I cannot install reporting services
until the ASP.NET Version Registration Requirement is fixed. And so far, I
cannot find anything that helps me fix that.
Any more ideas?

I do not normally like to reply to my own posts, but this question deserves an
answer so that others can see it. So, here it is:
SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services requires IIS 6.0 and ASP.NET 2.0. Whil
the ASP.NET 2.0 is available on Windows Server 2008R2, IIS 6.0 compatibility
is NOT. Therefore you can NOT install SQL Server 2005 with Reporting Services
on Window Server 2008R2.
I am hoping I can upgrade to Windows Server 2008R2 after the install is
complete.
