Default Disk Layout - 07-15-2003 , 04:29 PM

I know best practice is to separate the database devices
and the transaction log devices in a SAN layout. Where is
there a Microsoft document describing this setup and is
there a SQL 2000 Best Practice document out there that is
authored by Microsoft????

Thanks

Douglas,

Here are some MS recommendations:

RAID Levels and SQL Server
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...tun_1_87jm.asp

Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 Performance Tuning Guide
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...l7perftune.asp

Some other good links:

The Book "Inside MS SQL Server 2000" (http://www.insidesqlserver.com) by
Kalen Delaney for more info on RAID and SQL Server.

In addition to Dinesh's links it is wise to consult your SAN representative
as SAN's can act a lot differently than regular attached storage and each
vendor is a little different.
