Default Default data directory SQL2005 install - 11-22-2005 , 04:13 AM

Anyone know how to set the data directory in the SQL2005 install? The setup
docs say this is possible, you could do it for SQL2000, I've gone through
the installer back and forwards trying to find it... I don't really want the
data directories to be under "\Program Files\".

I'm using the Developer version (essentially Enterprise).

Hello.

I posted this already, but I'll do it again.
Go to:
HKEY_ LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVe rsion. Change the
data of the ProgramFilesDir to reflect the target path you prefer.
After installing change it back to its original value. That's all

This is for real? I have to do a registery hack to set the data directories
different
to the program install. What's next, for SQL2010, data directories get put
under
My Documents\My Data? Sometimes I wonder...

Can anyone provide any reasoning about this logic?

(Apologies for the rant Io, not directed[no pun intended] at you)
