Default Browse for SQL Server 2008 Installation Media - 01-27-2010 , 09:36 AM

Hi:

I am trying to install SQL Server 2008.
In SQL Server Installation Center, when I click on "New SQL Server
stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation", I am
asked "Browse for SQL Server 2008 Installation Media".

What should I be looking for assuming defaults were used with windows XP?

Thanks.

It seems that you have incomplete setup of some sort. From where are
you trying to install?

Default "Browse for installation media" problem - 03-15-2010 , 05:12 AM

Hi,

I have the same problem downloading and installing SQL Server 2008 Express with Tools from:

http://www.microsoft.com/express/Database/

Obviously downloading from a link, there is no installation media (CD etc.) for me to insert. I am trying to integrate this with Visual Studio, so have tried installing Visual Studio SP1, then installed SQL Server download. Got the "browse" problem, so did a complete uninstall and tried again, but I still have the same problem on performing any action.

Any ideas or any further diagnostic information I can send to help rectify this? I am fairly new to VS and completely new to SQL Server so please bear with me...

Thanks.

The URL you mention seems to have a web installer, something I would never
have to guts to try myself. The download is at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...d-fd500f6027ff

I suspect that the installation media may be for Windows to get the
web installer into place. Or is something with Visual Studio. (In which
case you should ask in an VS forum.)
