Default backward compatibility - DTS - 01-04-2010 , 07:23 PM

On a Windows 2008 R2 64-bit server Xeon, we have several virtual machines
setup, via Windows 2008 R2 Hyper-V. The vm's are running XP sp 3, 32-bit.

I've installed both backward compatibility packs yet I still am unable to
edit legacy DTS packages, inside of SQL 2008.

These are what I've installed:
- SQLServer2005_BC
- SQLServer2005_DTS

I am still getting the pop-up window that says:
"SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer components are required to edit DTS packages.
Install the special web download, "SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components"
to use this feature."

In a completely different environment, I'm running Windows 7 64-bit OS, with
Virtual PC 2007 installed (yes I know it's unsupported-but it works). My vm
is running 32-bit XP. I installed both of the above compatibility packs and
can edit DTS packages just fine.

What do I need to do to edit DTS packages on my Hyper-V VM's? I need to get
it installed on these boxes so I can edit my packages.

Thank in advance,

Andre

Thanks for the reply. However, unless I'm missing something, none of the
links help me identify why I can't edit my DTS packages on my Hyper-V VM
boxes. As I mentioned earlier, I've installed all the backward
compatibility software I need - as these articles confirm. Any other help
is appreciated.

In case anyone else is facing this same issue, I wanted to pass along the
fix. I finally called MS about this and got the issue resolved. I asked
the tech to create a blog with this information as I'm sure I can't be the
only one facing it. Hope it helps.
