Default attempting to upgrade to SQL 2008 - 10-09-2009 , 03:02 PM

I'm trying to upgrade my sql 2005 to sql 2008. In the setup I'm ale to get as
far as the Reporting Services Authentication screen when I encounter the
error: "Instance os SQL server that hosts report server database - Unknown"
and at the bottom of the screen I get "Check whether the report server is
correctly configured". I have no idea what the report server is or how to get
past this. Any thoughts?

Maybe don't choose Reporting Services as one of the components you want to
upgrade?

Tried that but all of the options are forced (greyed out) for upgrades.
Thanks anyway, just paid my $259 tithing to Microsoft and got it resolved.

Thanks again

Can you share what the actual problem was? You might save the next person
who has the problem $259.

Default Possible Solution - 06-24-2010 , 01:17 PM

Since this was the only thread I could find on the web with the same error I was getting, I thought I'd share the solution to save others the frustration. This error comes from having an improper setup on the Report Server for SQL Server. This can be caused by a handful of things, in my case it was due to having changed the computer name after installation of SQL Server 2008.

To solve it, update the report server configuration file using rsconfig. Follow the instructions found here:

http://msdevelopers.blogspot.com/200...ilable-on.html

Restart the Report Server Service, and hopefully you can continue your upgrade.
