Default SQL Server 2005: connection problem - 12-23-2005 , 10:33 AM

I installed SQL 2005 Std Edition on Windows 2000 XP.
Run SQL Management Studio and got screen to connect to server
and I can not connect providing my Server name.

If I try to create ODBC data source then I also can not connect to server or
from
Visual Studio designer.

My Windows 200 xP firewall is dissabled .
McAffee firewall is enabled and I choose to enable port 1433 for MS Sql server
And connection was failed again.

May be I have installation problem: I notice that Services in Control
Panel\Admin. tools\... do not lists 'MSSQLServer' in services list, and I can
not find any files with .mdf after my installation.

Cant seem to figure it out.
Any suggestions?

Yuriy

What you probably did was just loaded the client tools and not the server
components since to the best of my knowledge SQL Std edition is not
supported on XP. You need to use a Server OS or the developer edition for
XP. SQL Express also works but does not include all the client tools.
