Hi Guys How is memory handled when 32bit Analysis Server is installed on a 64bit Windows installation? do you still have to mess around with memory settings, or is it handled by Windows? Regards |

Do you mean installing on an x64 where AS is running under WOW? -- Dave Wickert [MSFT] dwickert (AT) online (DOT) microsoft.com Program Manager BI SystemsTeam SQL BI Product Unit (Analysis Services) -- This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. I think so. New to the 64bit environment. Followed these steps: 1.) Install Windows 2003 64bit 2.) Install SQL Server 2000 & AS 32bit 3.) Install SP4 "Dave Wickert [MSFT]" wrote: Do you mean installing on an x64 where AS is running under WOW? -- Dave Wickert [MSFT] dwickert (AT) online (DOT) microsoft.com Program Manager BI SystemsTeam SQL BI Product Unit (Analysis Services) -- This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Absolutely correct. That's how to do it. Yes, you still have to tune your memory limits, but more because you want to be a good citizen on the box (assuming you fit within the 4GB that you can use under WOW). Plus some settings always need to be changed, i.e. process buffer size. Memory is handled the same, it is just that you got an extra 1GB. SQL2K SP4 runs under WOW, so the full 4GB of the 32-bit virtual address space is available to you. To use more than 4GB requires the native 64-bit support in Yukon -- coming soon :-) -- Dave Wickert [MSFT] dwickert (AT) online (DOT) microsoft.com Program Manager BI Systems Team SQL BI Product Unit (Analysis Services) -- This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
