Default Virtual Cude processing - 10-18-2005 , 04:42 PM

Under what circumstances is it needed to process a virtual cube?

A virtual cube is similar to a view in a relational database. Processing
a virtual cube. Processing a virtual cube only takes a second or two as
all it does is to establish links to the underlying physical cubes.

So if you change the structure of the underlying cubes (add levels or
dimensions), you will need to re-process the virtual cube.

The only time that processing a virtual cube takes any significant
period of time is when any of the underlying cubes also require
processing. In this case processing the virtual cube will trigger the
processing of the underlying cube(s).

Correct. Although for practical purposes, notably around security settings,
it is possible that you might need to reprocess the virtual cube to
re-define (and re-establish) the metadata.
