Default Virtual Cube Question - 10-01-2003 , 06:59 AM

I have two cubes. In both the cubes there is a dimension Destination.
In one cube the granularity level of the Destination is State and in
the other cube the granularity level of Destination is City.

These two dimensions are interlinked in the database.

Now i need to make a virtual cube at the top of these cubes but the
problem I am facing is that the virtual cube wizard is unable to
detect a link among these dimensions. Thus failing to give me some
correct data.

Is there any way round to solve this problem ?

Regards,

Harris

A possible solution is to use the same dimension in both
cubes. In the cube with State granularity you can disable
the City level (Level Properties in Cube Editor).

This solution is fantastic as far as just data browsing is the issue
but if we look a bit deep in it then with this way we have a problem.

Let us consider a dimension of Destination with the following fields,

Destination_Id
Country_Id
State_Id
City_Id

Now if i use the same dimension for both the cubes where in one cube i
need the granularity level to be Country and in the other the
granularity level to be City.

And I use the technique of disabling the State and City for the first
cube. At the bottom line the fact table for this cube will be storing
data on City Level. Yes for browsing it will be fine and I will only
be seeing the data on Country Level but if i am considered with only
browsing then I might find a trick to use the same fact table with two
measures one at City level and the other at Country level.

So any solution for my problem other then disabling levels .... I
surely can use it as my last resort.

Harris
