Default Very strange behaviour when connecting via HTTP - 04-08-2005 , 08:56 AM

Hi,

I have an Analysis Server Enterprise Edition with a few cubes set up,
it has recently been reinstalled migrating from the trial version to a
licensed version. At the same time I migrated the repository from
local file format to reside on my SQL2000 server enabling somewhat
easier backup.

Now, the cubes are running fine again - I can connect directly from
Excel on the LAN logged on to the NT domain as myself.

BUT... When trying to connect using the HTTP connection feature I
cannot see the actual cubes. However, in the database list "Foodmart
2000" is shown - very strange as I have deleted that cube from my
installation.

Any clue as to what is happening - why don't I get access to the cubes
using HTTP? It could be a access right issue, but I specify the same
user when prompted when setting up the HTTP connection as the user I
logon to the domain with.....

Any suggestions would be appreciated greatly.

** Lars

Two possibiliites.
1) Within IIS, the virtual directory security might not be setup to give you
access. For example, if you set it up to use anonymous as an option, then it
takes presidence over NTLM. And the anonymous account might only have access
to the Food Mart database. One of the differences between Food Mart and a
user-created database is that Food Mart has an "everyone" role added to it.
Your other databases might not have this.
2) You might have an older version of PTS on your client machines. If you
are using an older version of PTS, then it displays only those structures
which can be seen by the older version; and not newer ones. Make sure that
your client machines are running the latest and greatest version of PTS. An
updated version of PTS ships on the Analysis Services SP3 distribution in
the \msolap\install\pts folder. Use either ptslite.exe (which is *just* PTS)
or ptsfull.exe which is the full MDAC stack along with PTS.

This was it!

Should have figured that out myself... But I got really confused about
beeing able to see the FoodMart database despite that I actually
deleted it from the server.

Thanks a lot for your help! :-)
