Default very large dimension incremental processing - 07-11-2003 , 06:51 AM

I have a database containing a dimension having more than 1 million records.
When I try to incrementaly update the dimension in the OLAP cube it works
only the first time. After that, every time I try to incremenaly update the
dimension, I receive a fatal error (in event log) and the server is
restarted or the very large dimension service crashes with a desktop message
("msmdvldm generated errors and was closed"). The dimension contains a
grouping level, there are 1.200.000 values in the dimension but when I try
to incrementaly update it, I receive the errors above.

Hi John,

1 million member dimension is very large and requires a lot of resources to
process. What is the version of your OLAP server and service pack applied?
How much memory does the system have?

If you are using Analysis Services 2000 and you are processing the cube
from Analysis Manager, you can capture the log processing messages to a
file by Open Analysis Manager -> Right click on the server name -> Select
Properties -> select Logging tab -> Enable Processing log setting and enter
a valid file path/name. Please post the log that captures the errors.

Could you post Application and System event log also?
