Default User Defined Functions - 04-04-2005 , 12:43 PM

Hi,

I read in George Spofford's book ("MDX Solutions") that if I create a client
application that uses custom functions in the generated MDX, the DLL
containing the function must be registered on the CLIENT because the MDX
will eventually be executed on the client. Is this true? If so, what would
happen in Yukon? I understood MDX will be executed on the server in SQL
2005. So, if I have a client application that uses a custom function, the
function's DLL will have to be installed on the analysis server?

Thanks,

J.

It's true.

In Yukon (Analysis Services 2005), all assemblies are executed only on
server. So this issue goes away.

Cheers,
Richard
