Default An unexpected interanl error has occured - 11-16-2004 , 08:33 AM

Hi all,

When trying to open any of my cubes I get this message and the notification
on restarting the application (which of course does not help).

Why does this happen and how can I fix this? I am stuck so any help would be
great.

Thank you.

Is there anything in the application log on the analysis server that
indicates you're having some problems, errors, etc?

What is the error number? 2437, which has the message you describe, has very
limited error information:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...rrors_9nxj.asp

Which application are you trying to open the cube with? And have you tried
opening it with a different application, for example Excel?

Hi and thank you for your reply.

There are no message number and the error only occurs when I try to edit the
cubes in Analysis Server Manager 8cube editor). I can browse the cubes
through the OWC or Excel and process the cubes without any problems, just not
edit the cubes.

Are the cubes on a different server than Analysis Server Manager?

In that case the version of Analysis Server Manager can be different from
the version of Analysis Server on the server and this can cause problems.
You can check the version of Analysis Server Manager by right-clicking the
'Analysis Servers' node in the tree pane and choosing 'About Analysis
Services..' there. You can check the version of Analysis Server on the
server by logging into the server and using Analysis Server Manager there,
or by checking the version of the msmdsrv.exe file in the ..\Program
Files\Microsoft Analysis Server\BIN directory.

Hi again,

No, the cubes are on the same machine as the Server Manager. This happened
once before too and then I had no other options (I thought) than to re-create
the cubes. I am trying to avoid having to do that again.

I have 5 cubes on the server and this problems exists with 4 of the subes,
the 5th is fine to open in edit mode.

Hi!

No the cubes are all on the same machine. We have 5 cubes in this DB and the
problem exists on 4 of them. The 5th I can open and edit normally.

You don't have to recreate the cubes. You can copy them in Analysis Manager
and give them a new name. Then delete the old cube, and copy the copy back
with the original name, and delete the copy. That has solved quite a few
issues with cubes for me.
