Default Unexpected fatal error occurred. Attempting to restart server. - 11-05-2003 , 05:04 PM

Hi,

I am experiencing this fatal error on an AS 2000 SP3 or SP3a.
This AS is installed on an Windows 2000 prof. SP3 & with windows
update on.
All software in english.

I am not doing something special, just normal MDX queries (see example
below).
During the test, this kind of MDX query is sent many times (25-30) to
the AS, as we are splicing the reports by geography rolling the where
slice clause.
I performed the test with the same cube and the same MDX sentences.
I only loaded one cube on the AS, just to isolate the problem.

I uninstall AS 2000, re install it upto SP2, all works fine, but when
updated to SP3 or SP3a I got the fatal error.

I tried the same procedures on a Windows XP Prof. SP1 and all works
fine with AS 2000 sp2 and AS 2000 sp3.

I am very disoriented.
Any help? I don't like to move all our AS 2000 servers to SP2!
I have the dump files generated by AS 2000, where could I send it?

Thanks in advance,
Alberto Plottier

Default RE: Unexpected fatal error occurred. Attempting to restart server. - 11-06-2003 , 05:28 AM

Hi Alberto,

Thanks for your post. Based on my research, it seems that your Analysis
Services (AS) is installed on Windows 2000 professional. Are you sure the
operation system AS installed is windows 2000 professional? If so, because
Microsoft? SQL Server 2000? Analysis Services need to be installed on
Microsoft Windows? 2000 Server or Microsoft Windows NT? Server 4.0 with
Service Pack 5 or later. I am unable to guarantee there are not any
problems with AS 20000 when you updated it to Sp3 or Sp3a.

Also, looking at the nature of this issue, I would highly recommend you
contact Microsoft Product Support Services since it would require intensive
troubleshooting which would be done quickly and effectively with direct
assistance from a Microsoft Support Professional. You may want to use one
of the Support Incidents which comes with MSDN Subscription.
