Default unauthorized access through HTTP on the server side... - 10-11-2004 , 06:42 PM

Hi,

I've a connectivity problem with a webpart which used an HTTP connection to
access analysis services.

First point: everything is on only 1 server.
Second point: my http access works fine (localy or remotly) through any
application (Excel, AS sample application...)
Third point: The impersonation works fine on my server

But my webpart always received an "unauthorized" error when it try to access
the same information!
If I replace the http://myserver/msolap connection by a direct connection
"myserver", then all works fine.

in the IIS log, I see the request with a 401 result instead-of a 200
response and I don't see the user name of the user in the log.

I've tried a lot of access like:
http://IPAddress/msolap
http://myserver:9999/msolap (a dedicated new virtual server)

I've also try the basic authentication instead-of the NT integrated
authentication without success.
I've changes the account used by my application pool (network, local system,
administrator...)

The problem: its a third party webpart, and I cannot change its code, and
the same webpart works fine on another computer!!!
For the moment, the company as not found the problem.

other element to know:
my server is a DC with sharepoint (SP1)
the SP3a of SQL Server is installed

What can I do?
any idea of the problem?
Can I activate some log anywhere on the system to track where is the
problem?

thanks
Jerome.

Ok, problem solved

its due to a security setting at the system level.
Exactly, its due to the security setting of internet explorer, at the system
level the security is too hard and cause some problems.

I've changed the security through a GPO to apply the security setting at the
machine level instead-of the user level and all works fine now.
