We've created some OLAP cubes on an internal server environment and we're
trying to archive and restore them to other servers and we get the following
error when we try to browse the data:

Unable to browse the cube XXX
Unable to locate the cube XXX

I've found numerous postings on this problem, but with no real solutions.
The closest I've come is to replacing the *.odb file on the target server
with the one from the server where the cubes actually can be browsed. This
worked in one instance but not another, and is not a suitable long-term fix
for the problem.

We have SP 3a installed on all source and target machines. The restored
cubes can be processed, but this error only occurs when we try to browse the
data therein.

Anyone who's seen this before? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem, and i tried this: if you installed MS Office XP or
above before installing MSSQL Server 2000, you have to run the Office Repair
program in Add/Remove Programs. After that, stop and restart SQL Services
and you can browse data stored in the cube.
It seems to be a problem of Dll´s.
I agree to you about there are many "solutions", because i tried almost 3
before this one that I wrote above.
