Default Unable to configure HTTP access to SSAS - 09-28-2006 , 07:26 AM

Hi all,
I have SQL Server 2005 Developer Version and Enterprise Version with
service Pack 1 installed. I had been trying to configure SSAS to access
over HTTP. (On windows 2003 Enterprise Server)

I followed the instructions at
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro.../httpasws.mspx

However, it does not seem to be working. Can some one suggest me what
might be wrong?

Is there a way to debug/troubleshoot? Can some one suggest on how to
test the configuration? I had been trying to access
http://localhost/olap/msmdpump.dll and it shows an http error 'page
cannot be displayed'

thankx in advance,
Jacob

when you access it from Excel, what's appends?
(or any OLAP client tool)

opening in a browser will not help you and don't give enough information.

does IIS is on the same server as SSAS?
do you use NTLM (integrated security) or Basic authentication or anonymous
access?

You may have things configured correctly, it sounds like you are
entering the address into IE and you do not actually get any sort of UI
from IE. You need to use an OLAP client like Excel Pivot tables or the
old MDX Sample app from AS2k. You then enter the http address in when
asked for a server name.

The following is from the link you mentioned:

====
For example, to connect to =3FMyMachine=3F from the MDX sample application,
you should be able to connect to the Analysis Services server using
=3Fhttp://MyMachine/olap/msmdpump.dll=3F as a server name.
