Default TotalMemoryLimit - 07-25-2006 , 03:53 PM

I am looking at configuring Analysis Services instance.
It has default Memory \ TotalMemoryLimit = 80%
And Memory \ LowMemoryLimit = 75%.

Since the server also runs SQL Server Database Engine on the same
machine,
I am thinking about reducing this.
However, I do not want to reduce it too much since most of the users
are served by AS.

It's 64-bit machine with 8GB of RAM.

So far we have experienced that AS eats all memory when it's
reloading the cubes.
I am just afraid that it is not returning it to the system (and SQL
Server - which as a special place in my hart when it does not need
that much.

Any suggestions?

I have found that SQL Server and AS share correcty the memory.
if the database as some activity then AS release his memory and SQL server
take this memory.
and when there is no DB activity and AS activity, then AS take the memory.

the system appear to balance correctly the memory usage without changing the
memory allocation.

in my case, I change the memory usage for my Dev instance of AS to insure
that I always have enough free space for other users in the production
instance.
