Default Tools for Viewing OLAP - 07-09-2003 , 08:01 PM

I am wondering if anyone knows of some reliable, functional tools that
can be purchased to view the data from the OLAP cubes, preferable using
a web front end

Cheers

See "Microsoft Business Intelligence Portal" by Tomer Ben-
Moshe, May 2003 on MSDN

If you can find it "Using Microsoft Office XP as
a BI Client" was available yesterday as a free .PDF
download. I have my downloaded copy, but I can't the link
anymore. Warning it is big about 7.7 megs 244 pages.

You might also want to read the World Bank case study
which used ProClarity.

The most popular third party tool for viewing Analysis Services data is
ProClarity. Other widely-used tools include Panorama NovaView and Crystal
Analysis Professional. A more recent tool for Analysis Services is Temtec
Executive Viewer, which is better known as an Essbase front-end. It is also
possible to use Business Objects and Cognos PowerPlay client tools with
Analysis Services, though they are not optimised for it. All of these are
available in client/server and Web versions.

Microsoft's main Web front-end tool for Analysis Services is Office Web
components, OWC. It's not as functional as the third party tools, but is
free for people with Office (preferably XP) licenses.

There are also a number of good third party Excel add-ins, some of which can
be deployed over the Web or using Citrix (and they often provide better
performance and functionality than pure Web products). These are much more
functional and perform better than Microsoft's own PivotTables.

Microsoft Japan has recently released Visual StudioŽ .NET Web Control for
Business Intelligence. This ASP.NET control
uses XML for Analysis to query the olap cubes.

Actually we (www.grapecity.com) built this ASP.NET Web Control
(http://www.microsoft.com/japan/solut...nfo/bicontrol/) for
Microsoft Japan during the first quarter of this year. The product currently
supports english and japanese languages. On being asked by us about their
plans to make it available for US market, Microsoft replied that they have
forwarded the bits to their support people and in due time they plan to make
it available on US msdn website.

As per the deal we had with them, we retain the ownership rights for the
product and its future versions. We are still looking into possibilities of
selling it as it is or with few modifications/additonal features.

Meanwhile if you need further information contact me at "ajayb AT grapecity
DOT com",
perhaps we can send you an eval copy.

thanks,

Ajay

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I would like to advise you to go for Panorama NovaView as webclient
for MS Analysis Services. You may visit our website: www.gmsbv.nl and
go to one of our references with a live over the internet BI/OLAP
solution based on MS Analysis Services 2000 + Panorama NovaView.

Regards, Marco

We are using Snowflake.net 2.0 from Intellimerce.com. It
is an XML for Analysis.net control with zero footprint on
the client. Ed
