Default Tools to develop MDX for OLAP/Analysis Services????? - 11-16-2003 , 06:19 PM

Hi,
We use Query Analyzer to write SQL/T-SQL scripts for SQL
Server. What tools do we use to develop MDX scripts/MDX
reports for OLAP/Analysis Services? Do we use Crystal
Reports, EXCEL etc. Microsoft provides MDX sample
application for developing MDX scripts for olap
database / cubes analysis for practice purposes. In real
worls what do we use????

Thanks

Steve

Hi steve,

There are a lot of possibilities:
- webbased
- excel based
- own development (mdx)

Webbased: you can use any of the great frontend tools for MSAS2000:
Panorama NovaView, ProClarity, TemTec, Cubularity, DW Explorer,
ReportPortal,...

Excel based: you can use: the excel addins of Panorama NovaView or
ProClarity or addins: Xlcubed, Visual Olap, O2Olap or Office
Components,...

Own developments: asp, mdx sample, components,...

you can visit also olapreports.com and see more products compatible.

Regards,
Marco

I would suggest trying the SoftPro Manager 4.0 (evaluation copy is available
on download). It is a very good MDX tool, supporting OLAP parameters, multy
query files and with user friendly educational MDX Editor. And, by the way,
it is also one of the very few certified tools available on the market
today(MS DWA member). You can get more details on the www.softpro.hr
site."Steve" <anonymous (AT) discussions (DOT) microsoft.com> wrote
