Hello,

Does anybody know if there is a way to set the query timout when connected
to Analysis Services 2005 via the http connection (msmdpump.dll)?

Running MDX queries that take more than 30 seconds will not complete when
running them through the http connection, however, when connecting directly
to the AS database, those queries, are allowed to eventually finish, and
return results.

I remember back in the AS2000 days, you could simply edit the .asp file to
change the timeout, however, I cannot find where this setting would be now.
Anyone have any ideas?

What are the exact error message? Did you change the session timeout
configuraiton in msmdpump.ini ?

Also, did you apply SP1 on the server. As I know, there is a known issue
that client application may receive "the connection cannot be made to the
XXX server, or Analysis Services is not running on the computer specified"
after 30 seconds when trying to retrieve some dimension members over HTTP.
This issue is resolved in SP1.

The error message I am getting is exactly as you describe below:
"the connection cannot be made to the 10.200.23.24 server, or Analysis
Services is not running on the computer specified" This error occurs 30
seconds after the command is executed.

The server is running on windows XP, and has SQL2005 service pack 1
installed.
The session timeout in the .ini file, I did not change. It is still 3600.

I will try loading this onto a machine with windows 2003, and SQL 2005
enterprise edition SP1 to replicate what the production enviroment will be.
I'll report back if the error occurs there as well.

We have exactly the same problem with SSAS 2005 SP1 running on Windows 2003 server -- long queries involving a large dimension time out after 30 seconds via a HTTP/XMLA connection. Was there ever a resolution to this problem? If so, I would really appreciate it if you could post it on the forum. Thanks.
