Default Strange Dimension problem using Excel to query OLAP - 09-29-2005 , 09:26 AM

Hi there!

I'm using Microsoft Excel 2003 to query an OLAP db on my Microsoft
Analysis Server.

In the excel file there are 11 page dimensions and 2 report dimensions
and just one measure. When I drag a page dimension A to the report,
another dimension is shown in the report (B). This happens with almost
all of the page dimensions.

I recreated the Excel file, and the problem doesn't occur. BUT: I'm sure
in the original file once the problem didn't occur AND I'm 100% sure
that I didn't change the file (the file is online on a webserver for
download...).

Additional information:
-The datacube is reprocessed automatically every night by a DTS package
-The excel file automatically refreshes the cube using a macro
-For the macro I use a VBA codesigning certificate
-The cube is a virtual cube

Can anybody tell me what's happening here? And how can I solve this
problem? I can publish my newly generated Excel file, but I'm affraid
the problem will occur again.

Thanx!

Regards,

Rob

Have you changed the structure of the cube in any way?

Re-ordering or changing the name of a dimension could possibly have this
effect. Many people do not know that you can drag a drop to change the
order of the dimensions within the cube designer.

Excel shows the dimensions in order, but I am guessing if you change the
order of the dims in the designer they probably get a new ordinal number
which could explain the issue you are seeing.

This could be the problem, thanks. I'm going to recreate the Excel file
and publish it, seems the only option. And don't change the cube...

Rob
