Default Standard vs. Enterprise edition and Analysis Services - 02-17-2006 , 01:16 PM

While deciding between standard and enterprise edition of sql server 2005, I
came accross a document titled 'SQL server 2005 feature comparison'. Under
'Business Intelligence' group, one of the features listed called 'Advanced
Business Analytics' seems to be supported only in enterprise edition. It
includes perspective and semi-additive measures. I am not sure what it means.
Does it mean perspective and semi-additive measures are not supported in
standard edition?

I appreciate any help in this.

Thanks

Yes,its this. semi-additive and time intelligence is not present.
partitionning not supported,
fewer datamning algorittms
dimension write back

from this page:
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/prodinf...-features.mspx
Account intelligence, metadata translation, perspective and semi-additive
measures. are part of the enterprise edition only

Thank you. I was hoping that was not the answer. But now that I know, it
would help in our decision.

Another difference:
In std edition, we now support basic http connectivity, but we don't support
binary or compression on the stream. With EE, you can do binary and
compression which is a big help for large return cellsets.

Hi Dave,

I know it has been a few months since your post but just wondered what your
answer translates into. I presume it is in relation to performance but would
appreciate if you could elaborate please.

We are in pretty much similar situation where one of our prospective clients
are looking to deploy SQL 2005 and AS 2005 and have asked us to provide them
with some guidance in terms of which version to go for, Standard or
Enterprise.

Regards,
Ermedin
