the express edition don't provides any admin interface. take a look at the express edition with advanced features to have some little interfaces. else, you can access SQL server using Visual Studio Express edition, but you can't really manage your server here, just manage your database not the server. the express edition as no interface to manage SSAS and can't be used to access Analysis Services. in fact SSAS is in the standard, enterprise and dev edition of SQL Server, so you must have one of these editions to have SSAS and the admin interfaces. (its the same case with SQL 2000). "Robert Neptune" <RobertNeptune (AT) discussions (DOT) microsoft.com> wrote in message news:5688C789-6E47-4011-9CE1-2CE61CB4F381 (AT) microsoft (DOT) com... Thanks Jeje. I'm still not sure if I get the idea. I wanted to use Express Edition to evaluate/test SQL Server 2005 AS features etc. Are you saying I have the enginge, but need to worry now about gettign tools to create DB/few cubes and load them with sample data - that's all I wanted. Would the version with Advanced features allow me to do that? Or should I arrange Trial edition? Thanks again, "Jeje" wrote: the express edition don't provides any admin interface. take a look at the express edition with advanced features to have some little interfaces. else, you can access SQL server using Visual Studio Express edition, but you can't really manage your server here, just manage your database not the server. the express edition as no interface to manage SSAS and can't be used to access Analysis Services. in fact SSAS is in the standard, enterprise and dev edition of SQL Server, so you must have one of these editions to have SSAS and the admin interfaces. in the express edition you don't have the SSAS server and you don't have Reporting Services too. |
