Are you referring to the 64-bit version of SQL Server 2000 Analysis
Services, because the 32-bit version doesn't require Itanium:

Yes I am referring to the 64 bit which requires Itanium.

Not sure what you're trying to find out, then - you might already be
aware that the 64-bit version of SQL Server 2005 can run on both x64 and
Itanium processor architectures.

One of the requirements I have right now is to if there is a way to run 2000
AS
on non Itanium based servers. Thats a special requirement I have and as far
as I know there is no way. However I heard it can be done through a special
way and am trying to find out that one.

Could you provide some more details of:

- why you have this requirement, what's the underlying issue

- where you heard of the special way, or more info on it

I'm not aware of such a special way, but maybe there's other ways to
address your actual requirements?

Reqirement is for performance reasons. I dont have more info on the special
way. I heard it from a co worker.

Is performance a hypothetical issue, or one that you are already
encountering? And is AS 2005 an option for you?

Hi Deepak:

SQL 2005 is not an option for us at this point. we have to stay on SQL 2000
for a while. The reason we are looking to run AS in x64 is that we frequently
get out of memory errors during cube processing. These occur when the Virtual
Bytes counter gets up to 3GB. My assumption is that processing the cubes
seems to require more address space than what is actually available on our
server.

Do you have any suggestions/recommendations?.

Thanks

In that case, there are no easy options that I can think of - you've
already excluded the obvious ones, like AS 2005 or AS 2000 on Itanium.

In similar situations in the past, possible solutions were to split
databases between OLAP servers, or to redesign dimensions to use less
memory (since they are usually the main memory hogs in AS 2000). But any
of these approaches involves doing detailed analysis of server memory
usage, especially the "footprint" of individual dimensions.
