I recently downloaded the evaluation copy of MS SQL Server
2000

It is supposed to come with a demo version of Analysis
Services...but it does not show up in the
START /PROGRAMS /Microsoft SQL Server menu

the evaluation download page even offers Labs for the
Analysis Server, but how can i run them if Analysis
Services doesn't even show up
(n.b. i downloaded and installed sp3a already too)

what am i doing wrong?

You may have already done this but...

Analysis Services is installed Separately.. Start the install again and
select Analysis Services.

Which operating system did you install on? Analysis Services won't
install on e.g. Windows Me, 98 or 95. (Well, you may get the MDX
sample application, but nothing to run it against...)

It can work with local cubes in Windows 9x...
