Default Slow to commit a dimension - 08-02-2005 , 01:15 PM

Has anyone seen this before?

We have a situation where dimensions are taking hours to commit to the
database yet on another server they commit within minutes.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

A long outstanding query.
To commit a processing transaction we need a quiet point.

Do you mean an AS query or a query from AS to the database?

We have tried restarting AS first so there should not be any AS queries
running. And there do not appear to be any cube processes on the
relevant SQL Server.

Hi,
Is it a very large dimension? When a dimension is being processed a shadow
copy of the dimenion is built and loaded into memory. If you have a very
large dimenion and are low on memory then there will be lots of paging to
swop data in and out of memory.

I mean someone issuing MDX against Analysis Services.
