Default shared and private dimensions in SSAS 2005 - 06-29-2006 , 12:46 PM

Hello,
In SSAS 2000 there are shared and private dimensions. The shared dimensions
exists in separate folder which belongs to appropriate database. The private
dimensions belongs to an appropriate cube. This allows to have shared and
private dimensions
with the same name for different cubes of the same database.
In SSAS 2005 all dimensions exists in one Dimensions folder.
My question is: how to create shared and private dimensions ( including same
name dimensions)
of one database and several cubes in SSAS 2005?
SQL Server 2005 Books Online does not even mention shared or private
dimension objects.

Thanks,
GB

In AS2005 all dimensions are shared. But if you want to have 2 cubes C1 and
C2, each with a dimension named D, then:
- if the 2 cube dimensions are the same in the 2 cubes, then there is no
need for what used to be private dimensions in AS2000
- if the 2 cube dimensions are different (but the Name is intended to be the
same), then create 2 Dimensions D1 and D2 (database dimensions), include D1
in C1 and D2 in C2 and then rename both cube dimensions to D (CubeDimension
has a Name of itself, it's not tied to the Database Dimension)

Adrian.
