Default Scheduled Process - 06-07-2006 , 09:29 PM

Hi,
I have a cube in AS 2005. The data the cube is pulled from is constantly
updating. I have set the proactive caching to medium latency MOLAP (4
hours)

The Cube never seems to update on its own however.

What should I be looking at to solve this?

Thanks
Jon

use the profiler to see what AS do.
you'll see the commands executed at a regular basis to identify if there is
any new data in the source.

how have you setup the cube exactly? specially the notification parameters.

You can set proactive caching properties on at least 3 levels,
dimension, cube and partition.

It is very easy to do so I suspect that what you may have done is to
change the settings at the cube level. The cube settings only define the
default settings for any *new* partitions that get created. Otherwise
the settings at this level have no effect on anything.

If you go into the partitions tab, click on one of the partition rows
(even if you only have one partition in your cube) - *then* click on the
storage settings link. If my guess is correct you will find that the
settings are still on the plain "MOLAP" setting. Change this setting to
Medium Latency and hopefully you should see some processing take place
after 4hrs.

If this is not the case then you should follow Jeje's suggestion and run
the profiler to see what statements are fired off when the 4 hrs comes
around.

I have a similar issue. I'd like my cubes to be automatically processed
every 24hours however, since we have SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition, it
seems I cannot select anything but MOLAP (scheduled MOLAP, automatic MOLAP,
Medium Latency MOLAP, etc are just available for SQL Server Enterprise and
Developer Editions).

When we were using SQL Server 2000, we had our cubes automatically processed
through a DTS Package and a scheduled job for SQL Server Agent. I cannot
believe the guys at MS had done this downgrade functionality on purpose for
SQL Server Standard Edition users. There must be a way to make the cubes
processed somehow (not manually of course), but I cannot find how.

Can anyone help me? Thanks a lot.

You can still use Integration Services to process your cubes. Proactive
Caching isn't meant to take away from that capability... In fact, SSIS has
improved the options for this.

Thanks,
Akshai
