Default Role migartion AS2000 -> AS2005 - 06-26-2006 , 09:18 AM

Hi,

I've migrate/rebuild(manually rebuild) a AS2000 database to a AS2005
database. Everything is working and looking fine.

Now I'm planing to rebuild the AS Roles. I have around 250 Roles( Yea, it's
the mininmum that I need ).

The Role editor from Management Studio is even worse that the one from
AS2000. It is looking like an unfinished application.

I have security at the dimension data level. When I want to set the allowed
dimesnion members for a role it is readind the WHOLE dimension( not only the
first level of the hierarchy) wich is having more than 100.000 elements and
can take up to 3 min. For this reason I can't use it to create 250 roles

I created a role manually and saved the XMLA script wich looks like a
reasonable solution for me.
I 've used the migration wizard and migrated the AS2000 database to a temp
AS2005 database. The roles were migrated also. Now I've tried somehow to
generate a xmla script for those roles.

The problem are:

1. I cannot create an xmla script for all the roles (like select all the
roles or the Roles knot and then -> Create script)
2. If I create the script with :

mouse right click -> script role as -> create to -> clipboard

it creates only the role without the allowed cubes/dimenion members sets .

So.. anyone have an ideea that can help me? There is a 3rd party tool for
role management?

Thanks,
-Radu

P.S. I really hope that in the next service pack Microsoft will finish
somehow the GUI development. Each day working with 2005 is joy and madness.
I see nice concepts, nice ideas but half made work
