Default ROLAP Cubes - 04-04-2006 , 10:24 AM

We have created some ROLAP cubes in Analysis Services 2000 with the staging
data residing in Teradata.

There is latency between when the query is fired in MDX sample and when the
query appears in Teradata. It is about 2 mins.

This happens only for the first cube. The subsequent cubes are all fine.

Are there any inherent problems with ROLAP or what is Analysis services
trying to do before sending the query over to Teradata?

Thanks,
Shri

There are at least a couple of things in the picture:

1. AS has to load metadata. If this is the first time you are accessing a
database after startup then this can take time for a database with lots of
metadata.
2. AS has to open a connection to Teradata -- sometimes this by itself can
take some time (depending on load, connectivity, etc.)

The first one probably explains why other cubes are fast...

Thanks,
Akshai
