You can restore them and the runtime server will respond to queries.
But without the repository you cannot do any administrative activities (i.e.
run Analysis Manager). And unfortunately you cannot reverse engineer the
respository information from the data files.
Thus I would recommend that you restore the data files (this allows users to
continue to use the system) while you go away and figure out how to get the
repository back.
In the future, what I typically recommend is that users migrate their
repository to SQL Server, then start a SQL Server maintenance job which does
a nightly backup into the data folder as a file. Then you can backup the
data folder and get both the data and the repository in one shot.
Hope that helps.

Hi,
I need to restore an AS db but only have the files that sit in the Data
folder. I have no Repository or handy cab file as this was on my local pc
and unfortunately not backed up - I know - stupid me!
Is there any way to restore from just the data files?
Thanks!
