Default Restore and Archive DB - 02-20-2004 , 10:01 PM

I want to archive a DB from development environment and then restore the DB to production environment.
Will the data also restore to production? Coz I just want to restore the structure, role, dimension and measure to production environment! Any method that can do this?

Use the MSMDARCH command from Microsoft Analysis Services\Bin\ Directory
You can archive and restore the OLAP Database (along with the Data) using this command

Can we restore DB without data, just the cube structure?

You can use the metadata scripter utility which comes along with the resource ki

o

In Analysis Manager, register Analysis Services of both Transformation Server and the Production Server
Now select the database which you want to transfer from the Transformation Server - Right Click - Select "Copy
Select the Production Server in Analysis Manager - Right Click - Select "Paste"
This operation would transfer only the cube schema (without data) from Transformation Server to Production Server.

I suggest that you look at the revelant section of the AS Operations Guide.
It covers *just* this scenerio -- and many more commonly asked questions
about Analysis Services.
