Default Replace OLAP database with new - preserve client templates - 11-17-2003 , 05:21 AM

We've run into a case where we need to replace an OLAP
database with another. The backend solution is rebuilt
from the bottom and we need to make a smooth transition to
avoid down time.

The client application is Excel 2000. Approx 200 workbooks
and templates are using the existing database.

In the old solution there was only one cube. The new is
totally different, BUT we have made a virtual cube to
emulate the old cube. To us it looks exactly the same. All
the same dimensions and measures. Everything looks the
same except from some captions on dimension (not
intentionally, but we just forgot to check).

Tests have shown that there is some differences after all.
Excel 2000 refuses to update based on the new datasource.
On refresh a "Internal error" or something is displayed.

However, in Excel 2002 it works just fine. The customer is
not ready to upgrade so we have to find a solution to this
problem.

Is there a checklist when replacing an OLAP database?
Any other "tags" than perhaps Caption on dimensions?
Non matching id's on database, cubes, dimensions?
Anything will help!

Thanks!
