Technically it does not if you are running SP3. If prior to SP3, then it is
required that they are on the same machine

However, if using NTLM security -- i.e. you are using the client's NT
account for security access, then you *must* have either IIS and Analysis
Services on the same machine or configure your machines for Kerberos account
delegation (which is quite difficult and requires considerable changed to
your NT domain infrastructure). Normal NT credentials can only travel one
hop -- in this case, from the client to the IIS server. Without Kerberos,
you cannot then transfer them a second time to the Analysis server -- this
is a NT restriction that you will run into using file shares, SQL Server
RDBMS, MS Exchange, or any network protocol. Thus the recommended technique
is to run them together.
