Dear all,

I am having a very tight budget in implementing the AS cube where it
will be opened to all the internet and intranet users. After the
calculation of the softwares that i need, the cost is far above my
company budget. This is because i need to have MS SQL SERVER ENTERPRISE
EDITION instead of MS SQL SERVER STANDARD EDITION. I will be using PTS
for client tools.

I wonder is there any way that i can minimize the cost ? Is the MS SQL
SERVER STANDARD EDITION can be used for internet connection ? XML ?

Please kindly give some advises as your information will be very much
appreciated.
Jeff,

If you want to use client tools which rely on PTS for accessing Analysis
Services and you need access over Internet, then you pretty much need
Enterprise Edition.
The alternative is to build/buy thin-client solution which may end up
costing more then Enterprise Edition, depending how complex it will be.

First of all, thank you for your reply Mosha Pasumansky.

I hope that you can kindly clear my doubts regarding the use of thin
client with MS Analysis Server/Olap Cube. Thank you in advance.

1) What thin clients that i can use in order to implement it through the

internet by running MS SQL Server Standard Edition ?
There are many commercial products which have thin browsers built in into
them (TemTec, Proclarity, Novaview etc) You probably will be better of by
visiting www.olapreport.com to get the full list.

Or you can build your own (like 30% of people who use Analysis Services do).
Here are some resources how to do it:

2) Can you kindly explain on how is the security/Licensing process when

using thin client with MS SQL Analysis/Olap Cube ?
For the licensing part - it is best to check the following:

http://www.microsoft.com/sql/howtobuy/default.asp
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/howtobu...rlicensing.asp
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/howtobuy/faq.asp

3) If i am usin thin client, how can it integrate with the IIS/Win 2K

Authentication system ?
All the authentication schemes of IIS are at your disposal - i.e. basic,
digest, Integrated, Passport. In addition you can build your own scheme. If
you are doing ASP.NET you can use built-in forms authentication.
