There is a very small file you need to put in the wwwroot directory of your
webserver... If memory serves, its msolap.asp. Did you do this step?

I cannot browse OLAP cubes from excel client over http, here is my
background information:

I run SQL Server 2000 Enterprise edition on Windows 2000 advanced server.
The client machine is a Windows 2000 workstation. The machines are on the
same intranet. All macines are updated with the latest windows and office
servicepacks. Service pack 3 has been installed for both SQL Server and
analysis server.

Using the MDX sample application that ships with Analysis server I am able
to browse cubes in the Foodmart 2000 database. I connect over http, and
MDX
application works fine from the client as well as locally on the server.
(FoodMart sample database and its database roles in Analysis server has
not
been altered after installation)

I am not able to connect with the cubes when I try to connect from Excel
over http. In the Data menu of Excel I start the Pivot Table, select
oleDB
provider for olap services 8.0. Then in the Analysis server field I write
http://<ip-address>.

Excel then shows the names of the cubes, I select one cube but then Excel
seems to hang when it tries to get the data from the cubes.

Since the MDX application works so well I take it that security settings
in
IIS and Analysis server are correct. One article

120401/wct120401.asp) suggest that there may be something with the
connection string, but I dont know how it can be edited or changed in
Excel.

Regards

Tore
