Your other option is also to install just the Administration portion
of Analysis Services on your SQL Server (go through the install and
select Adminstrative tools only, not the server software). After that,
you may have to run your level of service pack for AS. You should then
see the OLAP Processing Task in SQL Enterprise Manager, while working
on the server.
Do the same thing for your development machine.

You have at least two other options. First, you could write a VBScript to do
it. Look at some of the sample VBScripts that are included in the AS
Operations Guide and the Performance Guide (pointer at:
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/evaluat...ianalysis.asp). While they don't
do processing directly they do show you how to use DSO for other operations.
Processing is just another option.

You also could download and use the Parallel Processing Utility at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
It can be scheduled with SQL Agent or WinAT or equivalent. See the readme
file and documentation included in the kit.

Ummm Dave,
Thanks for reply, but there's a specific sentence in the original post
which
says "I don't get the DTS OLAP Processing task on my SQL Server".

What next?

cheers

You can use the DTS OLAP Processing task on the SQL Server machine. Just
ensure that you have configured SQL Agent to use a domain account which
is
common between both machines and you have added that domain account to
the
OLAP Administators group on the Analysis server.

I have an Analysis Services 2000 server - that's all I
have installed, i.e. it's not a SQL Server, just a OLAP
server.

On a separate server I have SQL Server 2000.

Back in the old days when I had them both on the same
server, I could automate a DTS job to process the cubes.
Now the OLAP server is separate, I don't get the DTS OLAP
Processing task on my SQL Server.
I can't run Enterprise Mgr on the OLAP server coz SQL not
installed.

At the moment, I'm just processing my cubes manually, but
surely there's a way to schedule this?

Is there a task I can run, or a command line utility or
anything that will allow me to process automatically?

cheers

Danny
