If you want to force aggregations on specific dimensions see the topics Matt
described below. In addition, there are at least a couple of different
tools avaialable that will help you do this. One is the Partition
Aggregation Utility which you can download for free by downloading the SQL
Server Accelerator for Business Intelligence. You can download that at
www.microsoft.com/solutions/bi. The tool installs into the "tools"
directory (and you'll have to go to the tools directory to get it).

I suspect the Usage-Based Optimization Wizard may solve your problem, so
I'd
start with that. If that doesn't work, you can dig deeper eventually
getting to manually creating aggregations in DSO.

Hope this helps,

Hi:

Using DSO, how to force Analysis Services to aggregate on a perticular
dimension? I have a feeling that some dimensions are not aggregated.

Thanks

Thanks for the response. I really want to "manually creating aggregations in
DSO". Could you give me a short sample to do that in DSO? The thing I like
to know is how to create aggregation for a perticular dimension/level.

Thanks

If you download the tool I mentioned in the previous response, you'll have
plenty of DSO code to go through in regards to aggregations. The source
ships with it.

I read this post as I want to also find DSO code to create aggregations.
I tried to install the Accelarator but it needs a Enterprise Edition for
SQL Server and certain version of excel.

Can some one just email (ac_786 (AT) yahoo (DOT) com) me a sample VB app or sample
code that would allow me to specify the level for each dimension for
which I want to create an aggregation.

I intend to decide the levels that are crucial and then run different
loops (for various dims) and create several hundred aggregations.

Thanks,
Amir
