Default Query Using Excel - 08-02-2004 , 01:32 AM

Hello,
I have a dimension with about 14K accounts, the problem is whenever
i query the data using excel, and then i selected a specific accounts, i
took me around 5 minutes just to see the result. same thing if i drag
one more dimension into the pivot table containing the accounts( much
longer to finish). i have 4 measures for beginningbalance,
debit, credit and endingbalance and no calculated members. The dimension
table has a clustered index for the account number. Is there a way for
me to speed up this query ?

Hello Jaime,
thanks for the reply, actually, i'm using MOLAP, i just tried
indexing the account_id and as you said, there's no significant effect
on the query. I'm just wonderin if this is normal for excel when you
are querying a dimension which has around 14000 accounts , coz when i do
an offline cube for the same dimension and fact table its much faster
than an online query. Does it have anything to do with the network( i
dont think so, coz i tried querying directly on the server using
excel...its still is very slow)? Do i need to breakdown the accounts
into groups? Any suggestions for me to speed up the query?

same dimension and there's a great improvement when it comes to speed
even if i have to drag down other dimensions on the pivot table. Does
it have anything to do with the network bandwidth( i dont think so, coz
i tried the same query directly on the server, and it still is very
slow) OR do i need to breakdown my dimension into groups. Any
suggestions to speed up the query?

Best Regards,
Leo
