Default Query Analyser for olap - 07-27-2005 , 05:04 AM

Forgive me if this sounds stupid but I need a tool similar ot Query
Analyser for testing my code (I eventually need to use the code in SQL
Reporting services) but I find the error messages no good as I am a
beginner

Can any one guide in the direction of some software that might help

Preferably free!!

Thanks

Denver

You have the MDX sample application ... not that advanced though...

In general, most to all MSOLAP client applications do not provide MDX error
messages apart from what is generated by the server. Analysis Services does
not generate very readable errors so it takes a bit of experience
correlating between the error messages produced and the actual problem.

George Spofford's book on Analysis Service 2000 has a copy of MDXBuilder
which is a tool for creating MDX queries using a flowchart-based design.
Using it usually eliminates parsing errors (it takes cares of syntax for
you).

If you can get a hold of that book, it's on the CD that comes with it.
